Plank steak without a plank – Millennium's pole shotI actually think that 379 kronor for a plank steak with beef fillet is a completely reasonable restaurant price. The problem starts when you look at what you get for your money.I ordered for takeout and noticed that the price was exactly the same as when served at the restaurant: 379 kronor. Since April 1, the VAT on food for takeout has been 6 percent, while restaurant service still has 12 percent VAT. The same final price means in practice a better margin for the restaurant on the takeout portion.When I asked about this, I was met with total incomprehension. The explanation was that the purchase prices are high. They certainly can be, but that hardly explains why the VAT difference should end up entirely with the restaurant.But the really strange thing came when the food was picked up.Millennium themselves highlight plank steak as one of their specialties. Then you might expect a detail like… a plank.They didn't have any planks.The “planksteak” was therefore served on a plastic platter. The result is about as successful as you can imagine. A dish that depends on a hot plank to maintain the temperature becomes cold on a plastic platter in a few minutes.And the food? The beef tenderloin and the side dishes were mediocre. The duchess potatoes, on the other hand, were in a class of their own – albeit in the wrong way. It was among the worst I have ever eaten.379 kronor is not the problem. I am happy to pay 379 kronor for a good plank steak.But 379 kronor for mediocre food, substandard duchess potatoes and a plank steak without a plank, served on a plastic platter?A shot at the post for the product.
